Description

The design of the book was developed based on the concept of time passage, a central question on Marina Abramović’s performative works, clearly stated in the biography’s title: When Marina Abramović dies. As the reader starts to read the book, the word VIDA (life) can be seen at its right edge. By flipping the pages the word VIDA fades away as the word MORTE (death) appears at its left edge. The book in itself becomes a performance, where the reader determines the time duration. On the cover is the description of the performance planned by Marina for the event of her own death, which gives the name to the book. The use of red to accompany the black and white pictures is not a random choice, as Marina Abramović claims that the color red is a source of energy to her performances and also to her life.
