Sesc Dance Biennial

Composed of shows, performances, installations and formative activities, the Sesc Dance Biennial presents to the public a diversified panorama of artistic production in contemporary dance in Brazil and abroad. Faced with a volume of more than 1200 works submitted for the 11th edition, the challenge for the curatorial team was to bring a set that encompassed all the existing complexity and at the same time could built a panorama of possibilities, in creations that question the traditional forms and behaviour patterns. The plurality of bodies present in the selected works was the starting point for the creation of the visual identity of this edition. The expressive potential of these bodies was graphically explored through the use of photographic fragments, the displacement of the same body and the juxtaposition of different bodies, eliminating the visuality of the universal body and paving the way for the flow of possibilities: bodies, movements, gestures, narratives and poetry. Curatorship by Cristian Duarte, Silvana Santos and Fabricio Floro; photography by Naira Mattia; video direction by Olívia Lang.
